**CLASSIFIED — Contract 0001, Riverside Garden**

An experimental substance entered the river. Accidentally. This memo does not

say whose accident.

The critters that drank the water have turned **mindlessly aggressive**. The public will not be told.

You are cats. Cats cannot be subpoenaed.  You have the mandate to resolve the matter quietly.

## Placement is the whole game

Every cat buffs the eight tiles around it. A Bard next to an Archer is a faster

Archer. A Sniper next to a Bard hits harder. Where a cat stands matters as much

as which cat it is — so the board is a puzzle you keep re-solving as the roster

grows, not a row of turrets you top up.

You get twelve posts. You will want forty.

## Ten cats, and none of them are a damage number

An Archer that fires faster with company. A Bruiser that cleaves. A Frost cat

that chills a lane. A Mage that splashes. A Volt cat that chains. A Banker that

prints money and reels in loose coins. A Lucky cat, an Alchemist, a Sniper, a

Bard. You start with two and recruit the rest by getting further than you did

last time.

## Four contracts, downhill

The garden, then downtown, then the deep caves, then — the Department retracts

the phrase "lowest it can go" — somewhere with no jurisdiction. Every tenth wave

sends a boss, and killing one stops time: the world drops into slow motion, the

camera pushes in, and a fanfare plays over the number you just deleted.

## It does not need you at 3am

Leave and it keeps earning, capped so that playing always beats waiting. Reset

when you stall and bank Catnip for permanent upgrades; come back at half your

best wave with the gold to rebuild. You are not meant to finish it on the first

run. Or the second.

## The Department will keep you informed

Every wave arrives with a memo explaining the routing, the staffing guidance,

and which inspector has been dispatched to inspect the first inspector. Read

them. Some of them are load-bearing. There is an after-action report at the end

that you will not enjoy.
